In John Blund, Rebecca Stenfors revisits the story from an earlier video work called John Blund, or The Sandman (2022). The film came about when the artist asked her father to tell her a bedtime story, which he dictates as the pair sit at the kitchen table, the daughter, transcribing the text in broken mother-tongue. The book contains a fragment from this film: the English translation of the script, which the artist worked on together with her father. Unfolding with the staggered pace of lullaby, the text, interrupted by conventions of dictation and oral storytelling, comes to an end before the actual tale has even begun. The story that we are left with is an attempt to cling onto a memory that has long since passed.
